“My customers are not on Facebook” is a common statement we hear from our clients when we suggest Facebook as a social media channel for their business. So how do you know which channel is right for your brand?
From Instagram to Linkedin to Twitter the choice can be overwhelming. So should you use them all?
“We feel the best approach is to strategically choose social media channels that work best for your brand, rather than spreading yourself across all channels. This won’t do you or your business any favours” says Lesley Richards, Camroni Social. “The decision you make should be based on several different factors including your target audience, industry and your social media strategy.”
It is important to know your audience and understand which social channels they use. There’s no point being active on a network if the audience you’re targeting doesn’t use it. For example, if your Audience is a 50+ Male who likes DIY – Snapchat probably isn’t the right channel for you! Define your audience and use the ‘Social Media Demographics’ statistics to find a match for your business.
It’s also worth pointing out that not every social media channel will suit your industry. For example fashion, beauty and food rely on visuals more so than text however, industries like software and tech have seen a lot of success with Twitter and Linkedin. You should also take a look at which channels are currently bringing in followers and enquiries, this will also help you to choose the right channels.
You should also check out your competition. What channels are they active on? Is there engagement on their channels? If so these networks may be the right fit for you too.
